Why heartwood?

The innermost part of a trunk, the “heart,” serves the tree as a backbone. It strengthens the trunk and supports the sapwood that carries nutrients around the heart from the tip of the roots to top of its leaves. Because of its strength, it resists bugs, decay, and time. It is the foundation. True storytelling does not decay, but ages. True beauty is beyond aesthetic.
